Robert T. Gormley, group executive vice president for risk management at Citizens Financial Group, has been promoted to vice chairman for risk management.
Gormley oversees credit transactions, portfolio administration, asset and liability management, credit review, compliance and operational risk, real estate management and corporate security throughout Citizens. He is based in Providence, R.I..

Fish. “He has helped our company maintain excellent regulatory relations, upgraded our operational risk procedures and strengthened our internal audit practices. Under Bob’s leadership, Citizens continues to have among the best risk profiles of any bank in the U.S. Top 20.”
Gormley, 56, joined Citizens in 1993 as senior lending officer in Rhode Island. He was Citizens Bank’s New Hampshire chairman, president and chief executive officer from 1996 to 1999, returning to Providence in October 1999 to serve as president and chief executive officer of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island and Citizens Bank of Connecticut. In July of 2001, he was named head of Citizens’ Risk Management Group.
The Rhode Island native has been active in local fund-raising and community revitalization efforts throughout his career. Gormley is a member of the Rhode Island Economic Policy Council, a body of private, labor and public sector leaders that advises on economic policy for the state. He is a board member of Roger Williams Medical Center and vice chairman of The Providence Foundation and serves on Junior Achievement of Rhode Island’s CEO Advisory Committee and the Providence College President’s Council. Gormley currently chairs the corporate phase of the YMCA of Greater Providence’s $10 million capital campaign. He also is a member of the Rhode Island Commodores.
Gormley, a Providence College alumnus, lives in Warwick, R.I.
