The Connecticut Association of Realtors is teaming statewide with Habitat for Humanity this year. The association donated a total of $12,000, with $1,000 going to each of the 12 Habitat affiliates throughout Connecticut. In one case, Frost Krist of Century 21 Connecticut Realty Assoc. in Hebron presented the $1,000 check on behalf of the association to George Askew, president of the Windham Area Habitat. The money was used for the foundation of its latest project at 89 Maple Ave. in Willimantic.
“What better way to help people in our community fulfill their dreams than by working with Habitat to build homes?” said Leanne Spletzer, CAR president. “The Realtor community is always looking for ways to help people obtain the American dream of owning a home.”
Habitat for Humanity helps families who do not qualify for conventional mortgages to become homeowners. Volunteers build houses with donated materials and homeowners help build their own homes, which Habitat sells at no profit with an interest-free mortgage.
