New Milford-based NewMil Bank recently promoted Barbara C. Potter to commercial loan officer. She has been assigned to serve business-banking customers in the bank’s Southbury market area.
In her new position, Potter will be responsible for originating commercial loans, commercial real estate loans and lines of credit. She will also originate Small Business Administration-guaranteed loans to new and existing small-business customers operating in the Southbury market area.
Potter joined NewMil Bank in May 2003 as a commercial credit analyst. She supported NewMil Bank’s fast-track compliance with regulatory changes following Congress’ passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. She was promoted to senior commercial credit analyst in June 2004.
Before joining NewMil Bank, Potter had a successful 10-year career traveling the world on the women’s pro tennis tour. She then went on to earn her bachelor of arts degree from Yale University and her master’s degree in business administration from Boston University. An internship at ShoreBank Pacific, the nation’s first environmental bank, confirmed Potter’s interest in small-business banking and sustainable economic growth. She is a Woodbury native and graduate of The Taft School and has returned to her roots to build her second career.
“Having been away from my hometown area for many years, it is wonderful to have a chance to develop business-building skills among friends and valued mentors,” Potter said.
She is a supporter of the Southbury Land Trust and a current member of the Connecticut Community Foundation, Rotary Club of Woodbury-Southbury-Middlebury, Lions Club of Southbury, Woodbury and Southbury Business associations and Yale Club of Northwestern Connecticut. She is also a member the Tribury and Waterbury chambers of commerce.
