Roxana Bowgen of William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services in Greenwich received the 2005 Good Neighbor Award from the Connecticut Association of Realtors at the organization’s recent Leadership Conference held at the Connecticut Convention Center. The award is given annually to Realtors who make an exceptional contribution to improve the quality of life in their communities.
Bowgen was granted the Good Neighbor Award for founding Volunteers on Call and for her 20 years of service to that organization and numerous other groups. Volunteers on Call is a Greenwich-based humanitarian organization that strives to help countless individuals both nationally and internationally. It gathers together people from all walks of life and socioeconomic levels to place teams of volunteers in the roles of helping those in need.
At Volunteers on Call, Bowgen works tirelessly to match teams and projects. Bowgen led a group of volunteers to New York City where they spent the night distributing food and clothing to the homeless. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, she organized teams of volunteers to serve at the Stratford FEMA Relief warehouse by packing donations to be delivered to the site of the World Trade Center disaster. She also has served, as well as recruited others, to volunteer time to homeless shelters in Stamford and Norwalk.
Just a few months ago, Bowgen went to Rwanda, Africa, where she worked with another group, building a house for her sponsored family and working with orphaned and child-headed households. She is arranging for another team of volunteers to return there within the next few months to continue the work.
A check for $1,000 will be sent to Volunteers on Call on Bowgen’s behalf.
“Roxana’s volunteer achievements are nothing short of amazing, and we are very proud of the recognition she has received from CAR. Roxana is a prime example of the high caliber of Realtors and staff we have as part of the Raveis team,” said William Raveis, chairman and chief executive officer of William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services.
“The Good Neighbor Awards once again demonstrate Realtors’ commitment to their communities,” said CAR President Robert Fiorito.
Bowgen is a member of the Greenwich Association of Realtors.
