Robert Knebel (second from right), president and chief executive of Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County, accepts a donation from representatives of the Connecticut Association of Realtors.

The Connecticut Association of Realtors is participating statewide with Habitat for Humanity this year. CAR donated a total of $10,000, with $1,000 going to each of the 10 Habitat affiliates throughout the state of Connecticut.

Renee Markitan of C-21 HomeServices-Richter Real Estate in Stratford, Tina Veronesi of C-21 HomeServices-Richter Real Estate in Fairfield and Marc Trojanowski of Maurice Trojanowski Real Estate in Bridgeport presented the check on behalf of CAR to Robert Knebel, president and chief executive of Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County, on Sept. 21. The money will be used toward a home in the Bridgeport area.

“The Connecticut Association of Realtors and Habitat for Humanity are a perfect fit,” said CAR President Mark Foreman. “Realtors help people achieve the goal of homeownership every day and Habitat for Humanity helps families obtain the America dream of owning their own home.”

Approved families work in partnership with Habitat staff and volunteers to build or rehabilitate their homes using materials donated or purchased with contributed funds. Each prospective homeowner family invests a minimum of 150 hours of “sweat equity” during the building process. Homes are sold at no profit via a zero percent interest mortgage held by Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity. Since its founding, Hartford Habitat has completed 121 homes housing over 430 individuals with the support of more than 10,000 area foundations, corporations, congregations, civic/professional associations, schools and individuals.

The Orange office is the company’s seventh residential office. All of the offices are located in the Greater New Haven area.
