Kim McDonald

The Simsbury Bank & Trust Co. has promoted Avon branch manager Kim McDonald to assistant vice president.

McDonald, who has been the Avon branch manager since joining the bank in 2001, also will serve as the Canton branch manager. Both branches will operate in coordination to serve customers in Avon, Canton, New Hartford and surrounding towns.

“Kim is an enthusiastic and well-versed ambassador of the bank’s solutions for individuals and businesses,” said Terry Boulton, senior vice president and senior retail banking officer.

The Simsbury Bank & Trust Co. is a locally controlled bank for businesses and consumers with approximately $215 million in assets. It has branches in Simsbury, Avon, Bloomfield, Canton and Granby.

Thomaston Promotes Blouin

Thomaston Savings Bank has promoted Ilona Blouin to the position of branch manager of the bank’s Bethlehem location.

Blouin joined the bank in 1998 and most recently held the position of assistant manager at the Harwinton branch. Her education includes an associate’s degree from Tunxis Community College and she is enrolled in various bank-related courses at the Center for Financial Training. Blouin resides in Harwinton with her husband Claude.

Thomaston Savings Bank has six branch locations, in addition to its main, commercial lending and consumer lending offices in Thomaston.

Company Acquisition Approved

Stockholders of business technology firm Open Solutions have approved a merger agreement providing for the acquisition of the company by entities affiliated with The Carlyle Group and Providence Equity Partners.

Based on a preliminary tally at a special meeting of its stockholders, 15,028,943 shares were voted, representing 73.8 percent of Open Solutions’ outstanding voting shares. Of that figure, approximately 99.7 percent voted in favor of the merger deal.

Under the terms of the agreement, Open Solutions’ stockholders are entitled to receive $38 per share in cash, without interest, for each share of Open Solutions common stock held.

The Carlyle Group is a global private equity firm with more than $50 billion under management. The company employs more than 740 people in 16 countries.

Open Solutions also has announced that it has selected the RSA Adaptive Authentication for Web solution to provide its financial institution clients. Using a system that analyzes various risk factors, the RSA product is designed to bolster security in online banking applications.

SCB Reports Assets

Southern Connecticut Bankcorp has posted a 40 percent year-over-year gain in assets for 2006. The bank reported total assets of $124.3 million as of Dec. 31, versus $88.6 million at the end of 2005.

Total loans increased 35 percent from 2005 to $75.3 million, while total deposits were up 55 percent to 101.3 million over the same period.

The bank reported a net loss of $117,794 for the year and earnings of $100,658 for the fourth quarter.

Northwest Promotes Delaney

Northwest Community Bank has promoted Terri-Lee Delaney to assistant vice president.

Delaney began working in Winsted Savings Bank’s Mortgage Department in 1985 and spent several years as a financial service representative before being promoted to assistant branch manager in Granby in 1994. She was promoted again in 1996 to branch manager and assistant treasurer of Northwest’s Granby branch.

She holds a banking diploma from the American Institute of Banking and became a Connecticut certified banker in 1992. She is also a board member, treasurer and chairwoman of the fund-raising committee of the Granby Chamber of Commerce.
