The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has named Connecticut nonprofits that will receive $249,500 in grants.

The funds are being awarded to 23 organizations that address critical needs, such as food and shelter, and assist in transitioning low- and moderate-income families into more stable financial situations.

“These nonprofits help hundreds of families access basic, everyday needs,” BofA Southern Connecticut president Bill Tommins said in a statement. “By helping people get back on the path to financial stability, these groups make our community stronger and help get one step closer to winning the fight against hunger here in Connecticut.”

Organizations receiving grants in Southern Connecticut include:

• Open Door Shelter – Norwalk
• Person to Person
• Shelter for the Homeless
• United Way of Greater Waterbury
• United Way of Greenwich
• United Way of Meriden & Wallingford
