An Enfield man has been sentenced to federal prison for committing three armed bank robberies.
David M. Johnson was sentenced to 97 months in prison, followed by three years supervised release.
According to court documents and statements, on Jan. 10, 2015, Johnson and one other man robbed the First Niagara Bank at 2133 Poquonock Ave. in Windsor. While investigating the robbery, Windsor police were contacted by East Windsor police, who were investigating similar bank and credit union robberies in East Windsor and Glastonbury. East Windsor police obtained an arrest warrant for Johnson for the Nutmeg State Federal Credit Union robbery and upon investigating his residence found $81,946 in cash bound with First Niagara Bank strapping and initialed by one of the employees, along with a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun with a fully-loaded magazine.
Johnson has been detained since his arrest on Jan. 10, 2015.
On Aug. 31, 2015, he pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery and admitted that he committed the robbery at First Niagara Bank in Windsor, the Nutmeg State Federal Credit Union in East Windsor and the Nutmeg State Credit Union in Glastonbury.
Johnson was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $193,311.
On May 29, 2015, Odain J. Johnson, of Hartford, pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery stemming from his role in the Windsor bank robbery. On Oct. 27, 2015, he was sentenced to 70 months in prison.
