United Technologies Corp. (UTC) and Eversource recently hosted an event to target energy savings initiatives across select state UTC facilities.
The event is part of a three-year strategic agreement between the companies to help reach their energy efficiency goals. UTC aims to achieve a 15 percent reduction in energy use for all state UTC facilities that receive electricity from Eversource. Other components in the plan include:
- New LED interior lighting and “dark sky”-compliant lighting in parking lots
- “Cool roofs” with white, heat-reflecting materials
- Window tinting
- HVAC upgrade projects with chiller optimization, HVAC retro-commissioning and water chiller study
- Studies to ensure optimal use of compressed air in manufacturing
- Energy-efficient elements in the new Pratt & Whitney headquarters in East Hartford
- Educational program to increase efficiency awareness and behavioral changes among UTC facilities managers and general staff
“UTC and Eversource started talking about energy efficiency a year and a half ago with a focus on how we could work together to save energy and money,” Tilak Subrahmanian, vice president for energy efficiency at Eversource, said in a statement. “The changes will ultimately lead to a greener and more sustainable environment.”
“This agreement supports UTC’s long-running efforts to understand how much energy we use and where we use it in order to identify significant energy savings opportunities,” Sean West, program manager for environment, health and safety at UTC, said in a statement. “Our long-term goal is to apply what we’ve learned through our agreement with Eversource to our facilities around the world.”
