Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and government officials recently announced the state is slated to receive a $400,000 federal grant to support 43 new HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers.
The grant to support the vouchers combines rental assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and case management services from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to support veterans who are at risk of homelessness. Among the vouchers, 29 will be distributed statewide by the Connecticut Department of Housing, nine will be distributed by the West Haven Housing Authority and another five will be distributed by the Hartford Housing Authority.
Connecticut was one of four states to sign on to the Zero: 2016 initiative, with the goal of ending all veteran and chronic homelessness by the end of this year.
