Gov. Dannel Malloy announced an allocation plan utilizing a $600,000 appropriation included in the bipartisan state budget adjustment bill. This plan, developed by the Connecticut Department of Housing, will help evacuees from Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands from falling into homelessness.

Evacuees who sought shelter in Connecticut were offered federal transitional shelter assistance, which allowed evacuees temporary funding for emergency hotel stays until it was terminated in January. This allocation plan will fill that gap and keep families together, Malloy said in a statement.

The DOH will allocate $250,000 of the appropriation to provide 100 households with first month’s rent/security deposit. They will also use $300,000 to provide 300 to 600 households with general diversion assistance and $50,000 to provide six months’ worth of case management services.
