A pair of properties have been sold to the town of Newtown for a new police headquarters.
The former Taunton Press building at 191 South Main St. and a parcel with a vacant house at 61 Pecks Lane were acquired for $1.6 million. The parcels total 7.35 acres.
The 22,318-square-foot Taunton Press building will be converted into a new police headquarters, with a 2,500-square-foot expansion planned for holding cells.
The site is 2.7 miles south of the existing police station at 3 Main St.
Cushman & Wakefield’s Frank Brown and Meredith Siburn represented the sellers, 191 Main Street South LLC and 61 Pecks Lane LLC.
“The 191 South Main St. site was chosen among four locations under consideration for a new police station,” Brown said in a statement. “The location, property amenities and existing main structure were the best fit for the future needs of the department.”
