Major New Haven Landlord Sued Over Sex Abuse Judgement

A major New Haven landlord is being sued by a former yeshiva student who accused him of sexual abuse and is now trying to collect millions of dollars in civil damages.

Eliyahu Mirlis won $21.7 million in a 2017 federal civil lawsuit against Rabbi Daniel Greer, who controls around 50 residential properties in the city through a network of nonprofits.

Mirlis, who has been unable to collect the judgement from Greer so far, according to the New Haven Independent, said through his lawyers that the new suit is aimed at gaining control of the New Haven properties in order to receive the money.

The paper reports that various repair issues and code violations are stacking up at Greer’s properties while the latest lawsuit progresses.
