A landmark redevelopment in downtown Bridgeport is nearing completion after years in the works, bringing 104 apartments and 8,000 square feet of retail space to a once-abandoned block near the city’s post office.

The 1188 Lofts, brainchild of developers Mark Reed and Patrick Normoyle, are slated to open in January, the Connecticut Post reports.

The project faced a long and winding process to completion, including a change in development teams in 2016 and challenges in dealing with century-old buildings and securing financing after its initial lender withdrew in the midst of a bank merger.
