The charitable foundation for Stamford-based First County Bank has donated $25,000 to local hospitals and presented its annual community award to health care workers.
The First County Bank Foundation gave $5,000 each to five Fairfield County community hospitals to support the needs of frontline health care workers at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic, the bank said in a statement.
To further recognize hospital staff and their commitment to the well-being of local residents, the foundation also gave frontline health care workers its annual Reyno A. Giallongo Community Legacy Award. The award is named after First County Bank’s retired chairman and CEO, “who during his tenure exemplified the bank’s culture of giving back to the community,” the bank said.
“During this unprecedented time of crisis in our community, First County Bank Foundation is proud to support the committed and dedicated employees of our local area hospitals. These health care workers sacrificed their own health during the COVID-19 pandemic while working tirelessly to help local residents in their care remain safe and healthy,” Robert Granata, chairman and CEO of First County Bank and president of First County Bank Foundation, said in the statement. “The bank’s board of directors, corporators and employees are thrilled to honor these hardworking citizens with the Reyno A. Giallongo Community Legacy Award.”
The hospitals receiving donations included Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, Stamford Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport.
The $25,000 funding is in addition to a $50,000 donation made earlier this year to local shelters and food pantries for COVID-19 relief and nearly $500,000 in grants recently provided to over 90 local nonprofits through the foundation’s annual CommunityFirst Grant Program.
First County Bank has more than $1.7 billion in assets and 16 branches in Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Greenwich, Fairfield, New Canaan and Westport.
