A historic class B office building overlooking New Haven Green will become apartments following approval from city planning officials last night.
Developer MOD Equities sought to convert the 8-story 129 Church St. into 92 studio, one- and two-bedroom units, plus commercial uses and a residential amenity space on its first two floors. Plans included in MOD’s application show residential units ranging between roughly 270 square feet and 760 square feet.
Built in 1912 as a bank headquarters, the building has recently seen many of its tenants leave thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to MOD Equities’ application.
Amenities will include a fitness center, game room, community room and a lounge, plus multiple roof decks. Bicycle parking facilities will be included on-site, and the developer is negotiating with the city Parking Authority to lease 42 vehicle parking spaces in municipal garages.
