New Haven-based Beazley Co. succeeded in collecting more 2,000 used wireless phones and accessories in a campaign to benefit the national “Donate a Phone CALL to Protect” program.
The program, started by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Motorola and the Wireless Foundation, collects used wireless phones then refurbishes, reprograms and distributes the phones to victims in need. Phones are reprogrammed to dial 911 or a crisis hotline number.
The first annual campaign ran from May through August. More than 20 Beazley offices across the state served as collection points, reaching out to their communities and promoting the campaign within their offices and at various locations and events throughout the summer.
“It was a great way for us to get the communities involved and is right in line with our company commitment to supporting organizations that benefit women and children in need, as well as the mentally and physically disabled,” added Beazley President Greg Scott. “We believe that it is important for businesses to be a ‘good neighbor’ in their community.”
The company praised the following individuals and organizations who donated goods and services to assist in the company’s collection campaign: John Wierzbicki, community service coordinator of Community Renewal Team in Milford, for coordinating the manpower for phone pickups at the various Beazley offices; Sal Carano of DiChello Distributors in Orange; Prashant Mehta of the Liquor Connection in Orange, for donating collection boxes; and Chet Perrotti of Perrotti’s in Wooster.
