Dwight C. Wheeler

Lifelong Fairfield resident Dwight C. Wheeler recently joined the Southport office of Prudential Connecticut Realty.

Wheeler, a former chief executive officer of Acme United Corp. of Fairfield, brings more than 30 years of marketing, management and strategic planning experience to Prudential Connecticut.

“We’re delighted to welcome Dwight to the Prudential Connecticut team,” said Southport Office Leader Melissa Riley. “He brings with him a wealth of corporate experience encompassing a wide range of strategic planning, finance, sales and marketing and human resource achievements. We’re confident he will leverage these impressive assets as he brings his career to a new level in the Fairfield County real estate marketplace.”

Wheeler began at Acme as an industrial engineer and earned subsequent promotions to vice president of administration, executive vice president and chief operating officer. He was elected to the board of directors, and later as president, treasurer and chief executive officer of the company, before his retirement in 1997.

Since that time, Wheeler has been involved in various venture capital projects. He was a senior partner of and co-founded two consulting firms. One, Employee Relations Extension, catered to the needs of small businesses; the other, The Fairfield Group International, provided management and distribution services to the consumer products industry.

Wheeler holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Bridgeport. He lives in Fairfield with his wife Carol.

CBRB Scholarship Awarded

Ashley N. Coombs, a 2005 graduate of Trumbull High School, has been named the recipient of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Scholarship Award for the state of Connecticut.

The scholarship is offered to college-bound high-school seniors who are children of company employees or associates. Selection is based on academic history and potential, an essay submitted by the applicant and recommendation letters from guidance counselors and teachers. The award amount, $1,000 per academic year, is contingent upon the recipient maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA and full-time status.

Coombs is the daughter of Robin and Doc Coombs. Her mother is a sales associate in the Trumbull office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. She plans to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University in the fall, where she will study physical therapy.

A star basketball player, Coombs never received a grade below an A during her high school career. In 2004, she was inducted into the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. She also received the Wellesley Book Award, which is presented to a student for outstanding character, academic performance and extracurricular activities. Her community commitments include serving meals to homeless people at Merton House in Bridgeport, volunteering as an instructor for the Special Olympics Golf Program and working to help Relay for Life, which raises money for breast cancer treatment.
