CATIC Appoints Mandell

Rocky Hill-based CATIC, New England’s largest domestic title insurance underwriter, recently appointed attorney Joel Mandell as special counsel for commercial services. “Attorney Mandell’s many years of experience in commercial real estate transactions will be of enormous benefit as he works to enhance the company’s commercial real estate services program,” said Richard J. Patterson, president of CATIC.

Before joining CATIC, Mandell was a principal in the Farmington law firm of Levy & Droney. He concentrated his law practice on the representation of developers, lending institutions and title insurance companies in the financing, acquisition and development of commercial real estate properties.

He is a past chairman of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and was elected to emeritus status in 2000. He has also served as a member of the House of Delegates of the Connecticut Bar Association. In addition, at the request of the state’s insurance commissioner, Mandell served on the task force that drafted the Connecticut Title Insurance Act in 1990.

Mandell received his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut in 1961 and his juris doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1966. A resident of Simsbury, he is the town’s deputy first selectman and is serving his sixth term as a member of the Simsbury Board of Selectmen.
