Officials from the town of Canton and Simsbury Bank & Trust Co. were among those on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of the bank’s new Canton branch.
The Simsbury Bank & Trust Co. held a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month to officially open its newest branch at 250 Albany Turnpike in Canton. The event was attended by town officials, including First Selectman Mary Tomolonius, as well as officers of the Canton Historical Society, members of the Canton Bicentennial Committee, Canton Public Library representatives, members of the Chamber of Commerce and other guests.
“We are so pleased at the reception the bank and our branch staff have experienced from the town, local businesses and individuals thus far and look forward to continuing to bring our special brand of high-touch customer service to more customers in Canton,” said bank President and Chief Executive Officer Martin J. Geitz. “We are also looking forward to being very active in and supportive of community events and projects in Canton the same way we are in each town in which we have an office.”
The bank supported the Canton Historical Society by printing 30 historic images of Canton as part of the town’s bicentennial celebration.
“A special part of our grand-opening celebration is the display of these wonderful historic photos which will be available for viewing in the branch during the next month,” Geitz said. “After that, the bank will donate the prints to the Canton Public Library for display there during Canton’s bicentennial year of 2006.”
The Simsbury Bank & Trust Co. is a locally controlled commercial bank for businesses and consumers that has approximately $200 million in assets. The bank serves customers through full-service offices in Simsbury, Avon, Canton and Granby and provides SBT Online Internet banking at simsburybank.com, free ATM transactions at 2,800 machines throughout the Northeast via the SUM program in addition to thousands of ATM locations worldwide, and 24-hour telephone banking. The bank also offers investment services through its wholly owned subsidiary, SBT Investment Services.
Beacon Teams With OSI
Beacon Credit Union recently selected Glastonbury-based Open Solutions Inc.’s The Complete Credit Union Solution, a relational core data processing platform for credit unions, to address its enterprise-wide data processing needs. OSI is a provider of integrated relational technologies for banks and credit unions throughout the United States and Canada. Beacon Credit Union, based in Wabash, Ind., has $556 million in assets and more than 37,500 members. It is the largest credit union agricultural lender in the nation.
“Farming and agriculture is the cornerstone of our credit union,” said Ryan Showley, vice president of marketing and information services for Beacon.
Showley thought the flexibility of The Complete Credit Union Solution and its relational database and design would prove to be a good fit for the credit union. “The farming business is very seasonal. Farmers only have income at certain times of the year, and we have to be flexible in handling payments at those times of the year,” he said.
“The business functionality of the system was one of our first considerations,” Showley added. “With the Open Solutions system, we will be able to adapt and move forward with new technologies and processes. In the future, technology will be the foundation for everything we do. Every touch point with our members will involve technology in one way or another. We were very impressed with the features and functionality we saw and the innovations that Open Solutions is bringing to the credit union and banking marketplace.”
The Complete Credit Union Solution was designed to be an open architecture application, creating the flexibility necessary for running a service-oriented financial institution. It provides credit unions with a fully featured strategic product platform, integrating core data processing with customer-centric applications such as Internet banking, business intelligence, financial accounting, credit card processing, imaging and interactive voice response solutions.
