W.R. Berkley Forms Transportation Liability Unit

Greenwich insurance holding company W. R. Berkley Corp. has formed a new division of Carolina Casualty Insurance Group which will specialize in underwriting transportation excess liability insurance, the company said.

The new division, called Transportation Underwriters, will be based in Boston and will be led by Rocco P. Modafferi.

"We are pleased to have Rocco Modafferi, a demonstrated leader with specialized experience in the excess casualty transportation insurance marketplace, join us," said William R. Berkley, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of W. R. Berkley Corp. "This new division will allow W. R. Berkley Corp. to significantly expand its footprint in the commercial transportation insurance marketplace."
