The scheduled expansion of Iroquois Gas Transmission System’s Brookfield Compressor Station has been completed, and an upgraded compressor system is online and running smoothly, according to a statement.
Construction for the addition of the 10,300-horsepower compressor unit at Iroquois’ existing Brookfield facility was completed in mid-October and the unit commenced operation yesterday, following approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
The expansion will deliver an additional 200 million cubic feet per day of natural gas from Iroquois’ interconnection with the Algonquin Gas Transmission System in Brookfield to National Grid’s local distribution system at South Commack, Long Island.
"The successful completion of the 08/09 expansion project will improve system reliability and further diversify supply options for Iroquois’ shippers by improving access to Atlantic LNG, northeastern U.S. storage, and emerging Marcellus Shale production," according to Jay Holm, President of Iroquois Pipeline Operating Co.
The Iroquois system transports more than 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas, primarily from western Canada, into the Northeast.
