Bloomfield-based insurer Cigna and Shriners Hospitals for Children have reached agreement on a three-year contract that adds all 20 of Shriners’ hospitals in 16 states and its more than 200 doctors to Cigna’s network.

Under the agreement, effective June 1, those enrolled in a Cigna health plan will be eligible to receive covered services at in-network rates at Shriners.

"We’re very pleased to add Shriners Hospitals for Children to Cigna’s national network," said Thomas Garvey, Cigna’s national vice president for network and medical cost management. "Each year thousands of families turn to a Shriners hospital when their children need care, and now, families enrolled in a Cigna health plan will have the security that comes from having these hospitals and services included in Cigna’s national network."

Shriners operates 22 hospitals around the country, including one in Springfield, Mass.
