Groundbreaking Planned For I-95 Project In Norwalk

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for a widening project along busy Interstate 95 in Norwalk.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will be on hand for the event Wednesday morning. He’ll be joined by area state and local officials. The project is designed to improve traffic safety and ease congestion around the area of exits 14 and 15.

On Monday, the Department of Transportation announced that preliminary work was beginning at the site. The project involves the construction of auxiliary lanes or speed change lanes.

The project is one of three planned congestion mitigation projects along one of the most congested corridors in the state. They are being funded by a $1.3 billion transportation initiative approved by the General Assembly in 2005.

The other two, in Darien and Norwalk, have been completed.
