The 2012 Build-A-Thon to benefit Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity is taking place next week from June 12 to June 16 on South Marshall St. in Hartford.
The Build-A-Thon is a week-long building blitz and is one of the group’s biggest fundraisers of the year. The annual event is designed to bring together individuals, businesses and foundations throughout the greater Hartford community in order to build simple, decent, affordable housing for families in need.
Hartford Habitat hopes to raise more than $50,000 this year by engaging up to 45 volunteers a day. Each volunteer is asked to raise at least $250. The MetLife Foundation, Private Capital Group LLC, and St. Mary’s Church are the 2012 Build-A-Thon’s lead Dream Sponsors.
The 2012 Build-A-Thon is focused on 16-house building project on South Marshall St. This is Hartford Habitat’s largest and most concentrated development and is part of the "Community Collaboration for Positive Change" in this section of Hartford’s Asylum Hill neighborhood. It is expected to be completed by the summer of 2013. Build-A-Thon volunteers will provide construction support to keep this project on track.
