Officials from Connecticut’s health insurance marketplace say they’re pleased with the number of people who signed up for coverage during the second open enrollment period.

Access Health CT CEO Jim Wadleigh announced Monday that 204,358 individuals enrolled in health care plans. Of those new enrollees, 162,494 were processed into government-funded Medicaid while 41,864 were enrolled in private health insurance plans.

After taking last year’s open enrollment into account, a total of 552,603 Connecticut residents have received health insurance coverage through the exchange.

Wadleigh said Access Health CT tried new ways this year to reach out to potential enrollees. He said they implemented an in-person assistance program in key communities, relying on help from a network of community agencies.

Access Health CT had a goal of enrolling 70,000 new individuals.
