Two New Haven hotels have entered into settlement agreements as a result of an ongoing investigation from the Department of Justice’s office to verify that the hotels are complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The hotels involved are Omni Hotel at Yale and Village Suites (formerly Premiere Hotel and Suites).
Twelve randomly-selected New Haven area hotels were selected to complete a compliance review survey and on-site inspections were conducted in those hotels. Six of the hotels surveyed had ADA compliance violations.
The law prevents private entities that own or operate “places of public accommodation” from discriminating on the basis of disability. The ADA authorizes the Department of Justice to investigate complaints and conduct periodic reviews to ensure compliance.
The La Quinta Inn and Suites, Courtyard Marriott and New Haven Hotel previously entered into settlement agreements with the government. The government is continuing to work with the remaining hotel to reach an agreement.
