The real estate arm of Amerco, U-Haul’s parent company, recently announced it has purchased the former General Electric building in Plainville that has sat vacant for approximately seven years.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Pinnacle Rock will operate a full-service store in the 183,711-square-foot building on the 15-acre property at 10 New Britain Ave. The property will undergo renovations over the next year to expand its product and service line, the company says. Upon completion the facility will feature 2,500 indoor, climate-controlled storage units; towing equipment and hitch installation; propane; premium RV, boat and vehicle parking/storage with electrical and sewer hookup in a covered, gated area and drive-in load/unload zone inside the building for storage customers.

U-Haul announced it intends to hire locally and could staff 15 or more employees once the expansion is finished.
