A Waterbury tax preparer pleaded guilty yesterday to two counts of aiding and assisting the filing of a false tax return.

Marcus Fox was charged with six counts of the crime in July 2015 for allegedly preparing and filing more than 900 tax returns with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service on behalf of clients in his community, a number of which contained false information.

The government lost more than $2.2 million in taxes as a result of this scheme.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on June 23, 2016, at which time he faces a maximum term of imprisonment of six years. He has also agreed that he owes restitution of over $2.2 million.
