Several men have been charged with armed robberies of a West Haven post office and a Hamden bank.

Derrick White, of Hamden, who also operates under the alias “Fly,” Malcom Haynes, of New Haven, who also operates under the alias “Black,” and Howard Bookert, of Hamden, were charged with one count of armed robbery of a postal employee. White and Haynes were also charged with one count of armed bank robbery.

The indictment alleges that on April 21, White, Haynes and Bookert stole money and other government property from the post office at 75 Farwell Ave. in West Haven, and threatened a postal employee and others through use of a dangerous weapon.

The indictment further alleges that on the same day, White, Haynes and another person known to the grand jury used force, violence and intimidation to steal $9,287 from the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1647 Whitney Ave. in Hamden, using a dangerous weapon to endanger a person.

White and Bookert have been detained since that day, when they were apprehended in New Haven and arrested on related state charges. Haynes has been detained since his arrest on related state charges on May 23.

If convicted, the defendants could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each count.
