Former West Haven Housing Director Sentenced For Taking More Than $1M In Bribes

A former West Haven housing director has been sentenced to four years in prison for accepting bribes and evading taxes.

Michael Siwek of North Haven in September 2014 pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery in connection with a program receiving federal funds, one count of bribery and one count of tax evasion.

Siwek was sentenced late last week by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea in Hartford to 48 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for receiving approximately $1.5 million in bribes while serving as the executive director of the West Haven Housing Authority from February 2007 to February 2012, and for failing to pay taxes on the illegal income.

Shea ordered SIWEK to pay restitution in the amount of $1,503,096, and back taxes, penalties and interest totaling more than $363,000.
