Boston-based Shawmut Design and Construction has completed steel framing for Choate Rosemary Hall’s new St. John Hall student center in Wallingford.
The three-story, 44,700-square-foot building is projected for completion in spring 2017. Designed by Bowie Gridley Architects, the building will house the school store Tuck Shop Café, deans’ and student activities offices, meeting rooms, student project rooms and club spaces. Shawmut also is installing geothermal heating and cooling systems designed to attain LEED Gold certification. To commemorate the construction milestone, students and faculty signed steel roof beams at a recent ceremony.
Shawmut earlier completed Choate’s Kohler Environmental Center and is working on Connecticut projects including a new residence hall at Sacred Heart University and a RecPlex at Fairfield University.
