The latest in a series of sentencings related to a widespread mortgage fraud scheme has sent a California resident to federal prison for more than four years by order of U.S. District Court in Bridgeport.

Mehdi Moarefian will serve 52 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release and payment of over $2.39 million in restitution, for his role in the mortgage loan modification scheme led by Aria Maleki. Moarefian was a top-tier representative in the scheme, which cost more than 1,000 homeowners about $3 million total.

Two co-conspirators were sentenced late last week.
