A Connecticut town has withdrawn an application for a proposed park to be named in memory of a boy who died from cancer.
The Hartford Courant reported that Ellington First Selectwoman Lori Spielman said in a post last week on the town’s Facebook page that the “Middle Road-Jacob Poulin Project” had been halted because of unacceptable soil test results. Officials had planned to discuss the park on Monday.
According to Public Works Director Timothy Webb, soil testing showed evidence of pesticides “just above permittable levels.” Webb said no traces of lead were detected in the soil.
Jacob’s mother, Sarah Poulin, said she’s surprised by the town’s actions. Poulin said she will continue to raise money for the park in the hopes that it can find a home somewhere.
