Residents in Connecticut are paying some of the highest rates in the country for utilities.

That’s according to a recent study from Move.org that broke down and compared each state’s utility costs for electricity, natural gas, water, cable and internet.

To calculate electricity and natural gas costs, the site multiplied average national consumption rates by the average cost for these services in each state—individual bills may vary depending on actual usage.

When determining internet costs, Move.org looked at a service level that included speeds of 60 Mbps, unlimited data and asymmetric digital subscriber line. State-by-state information was unavailable for cable and water, so the study used the national averages to supply those figures for each state.

Connecticut ranked fourth overall for most expensive utility costs, behind Rhode Island, Alaska and Hawaii.

A closer look at specific utilities shows the average resident in the Nutmeg state is spending about $187 per month on electricity, which ranks third in the country. For natural gas, the cost per month on average is about $114, ranking Connecticut 14th.

When it came to internet, residents in Connecticut actually had some of the most affordable costs in the country, with the average resident paying about $54 per month, which ranked 47th among all states.

For all utilities, residents in Connecticut pay close to $500 per month.
