The former home of a Fairfield supermarket has sat empty for more than a decade, a blight on its neighbors. Now, it looks set to get new life as the home of a private school.

The Goddard School plans to convert the 9,612-square-foot building at 1290 Stratfield Road into its latest branch, following the building’s sale to Summit Development LLC for $1.45 million. Real estate agency Angel Commercial handled the transaction.

The Stamford Advocate reports the developer plans to work closely with the neighborhood association to design the building. Local opposition to potential tenants helped scupper previous plans to lease the space to a national drugstore chain.

The Goddard School is a network of 460 preschools in 36 states, teaching 65,000 students using a “play-based” curriculum, according to its website
