Since its creation in 2011, the Connecticut Airport Authority has sought to maximize non-aviation revenues at Bradley International Airport with upgraded concessions and plans for an expanded cargo facility.
A sign of Connecticut’s strengthening state economy, the Connecticut Airport Authority announced that Hartford’s Bradley International Airport saw passenger traffic grow by 3.6 percent in 2018, marking six consecutive years of growth.
In total, the number of passengers using Bradley International Airport has increased by 23 percent over the six-year period, from 5.42 million passengers in 2013 to 6.67 million passengers in 2018. The authority said that the growth makes the airport the second-busiest in New England.
“In 2018, we continued to aggressively pursue new nonstop flights and to modernize our facilities with the goal of making Bradley International Airport the airport of choice in the region,” CAA Executive Director Kevin A. Dillon said in a statement. “We’re pleased that our passengers are taking note of the many exciting developments and we take immense pride in the confidence that they continue to place in us.”
The growth breaks down as follows:
- 2013: 5.42 million passengers, up 1.4 percent from 2012
- 2014: 5.87 million passengers, up 8.4 percent from 2013
- 2015: 5.93 million passengers, up 1 percent from 2014
- 2016: 6.06 million passengers, up 2.1 percent from 2015
- 2017: 6.44 million passengers, up 6.2 percent from 2016
- 2018: 6.67 million passengers, up 3.6 percent from 2017
