A former Bridgeport nursing home has been sold for $2.15 million.

The former Astoria Park Nursing Home at 725 Park Ave. was bought by the Bridgeport Rescue Mission for use as its new community care center.

“Bridgeport Rescue Mission has the vision to renovate this building to be the home of a care center which will enable us to expand our capacity to meet the basic human needs of the hungry, homeless and addicted,” Bridgeport Rescue Mission Executive Director Terry Wilcox said in a statement.

Founded in 1993, the Bridgeport Rescue Mission provides food, shelter, clothing, education, job training and counseling for the urban poor and addicted of coastal Fairfield County.

The 61,344-square-foot, 5-story building on 1.29 acres is located minutes from I-95 (Exit 27) and Route 8 (Exit 1).

“We are pleased that this building will be repurposed to help those in need,” John Angel, president of Angel Commercial, said in a statement. “It is an expansive facility and should make a huge difference to the surrounding community.”

Angel represented the seller, Laureate Astoria LLC; the buyer was represented by Baldwin Pearson & Co. Inc.
