Four historic properties in downtown Mystic have traded hands for $11.5 million.
The Gilbert Building, the Maxwelton Building and the Steamboat Wharf Building were sold by Steamboat Wharf Co. LLC, a partnership of John McGee, Paul Connor and Wes Maxwell which has built or renovated over half of downtown Mystic in the last 40 years and played a role in the village’s rise as a prominent tourist destination.
The Steamboat Wharf building includes residential apartments, commercial storefronts and the 11-room Steamboat Inn.
Buyer Walter Glaser Jr. has a strong family connection to Mystic, according to Judi Caracausa of Market Realty, who brokered the sale. Glaser owned and operated GAL Manufacturing Corp., an 800-person worldwide elevator parts maker. He sold the company in 2017, The Day reported.
“It was very important to us that we find a buyer who will value the community as we do and who will maintain the assets, not just for investment but for the long-term well-being of Mystic,” Connor said in a statement.
