Danbury Developer Wants to Bring Craft Distillers to City

A subsidiary of Danbury’s Rizzo Cos. is asking the city’s planning and zoning boards to permit craft distilleries in the city’s industrial zones. The city agreed to permit breweries and their taprooms in certain industrial zones in 2017, amid the nationwide boom in craft brewing.

The Danbury News-Times reports Rizzo has not announced any specific locations or potential distillers, but Mayor Mark Boughton is supportive of the company’s request. The company owns a historic factory building near the recently-opened Charter Oak Brewing taproom on Shelter Rock Road.

Craft distilling has grown alongside craft brewing, and the state currently has around a dozen active craft distilleries.
