A proposed redevelopment of an 11-acre Mystic boat yard got a boost last week when the Stonington Economic Development Commission unanimously backed the project, according to draft meeting minutes.
The owner of Noank Shipyard and Seaport Marine on Smiler’s Wharf next to the village’s downtown are proposing to replace the current boat repair and storage facility with a restaurant, a marine services building, a 50-key boutique hotel and 47 residential units split between apartments, townhouses and single-family homes, The Day reports. A popular restaurant currently on the site will remain, and its owners will operate the second eatery. Renderings presented to the committee show a boardwalk along the harbor, as well.
The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to take up the project on May 28.
