April rent prices in Connecticut were all over the spectrum, depending on the city, with rates below and above national averages.

That’s according to a recent study from the national apartment search website RentCafe, which analyzed rent data across the 253 largest cities in the U.S. The report is exclusively based on apartment data related to buildings containing 50 or more units, and includes cities with populations over 100,000 and a rental stock of at least 2,900 apartments in 50 plus unit buildings.

The average rent nationwide in April was $1,436, up by 3 percent ($42) year-over-year and 0.3 percent ($5) month-over-month, according to Yardi Matrix data that RentCafe analyzed.

The average rent in April was only $1,184 in Hartford and $942 in Waterbury, but $2,366 in Stamford and $1,693 in New Haven.

Unsurprisingly, Manhattan, New York had the most expensive monthly rent in April at $4,130, while the cheapest city in the study was Wichita, Kansas at $650 rent on average per month.

Of the 253 cities included, 64 percent had average rents below the $1,436 national average, while 36 percent had average rents above.
