With the city’s downtown Hilton hotel in need of renovations, Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin is asking the city council for authorization to renegotiate the terms of the hotel’s ground lease.
The renegotiation is necessary to allow the hotel at 315 Trumbull St. to take on more debt, according to a letter from Bronin to the council.
Bronin is also asking the council to let him apply for a $4.75 million Section 108 loan from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to support renovations to its 393 guest rooms.
The hotel received a $7 million Section 108 loan in 2010 with help from the city when it changed hands.
