At the last day of testimony in a $90 million lawsuit against the city of Hartford, the head of the construction company kicked off the project blamed city officials for delays that kept the ballpark’s home team from playing its first season there.

According to the Hartford Courant, Centerplan Construction Co. CEO Robert Landino said official authorization for millions of dollars of additional work, including change orders and code compliance issues, did not come until two weeks before the construction deadline.

The delays also caused Centerplan to be removed from the project to develop apartments near the ballpark. Centerplan’s suit has stalled redevelopment of the city’s DoNo neighborhood around the ballpark.
