With the fall of a judge’s gavel Friday, Stamford avoided yet another large office vacancy.

A bankruptcy approved a request from Purdue Pharma to allow it to sign a lease lease for 104,000 square feet at 201 Tresser Blvd. the Stamford Advocate reports.

“Ideally, one wouldn’t make any significant changes in your rental or business footprint until a business plan is largely agreed and you’re on your way to exiting Chapter 11 [bankruptcy],” Drain said during a hearing at the federal bankruptcy court in downtown White Plains. “[But] taking all the factors into account, this appears to be a proper exercise in business judgment.”

Purdue’s workforce has shrunk significantly in recent years under a relentless barrage of lawsuits over its marketing of the highly addictive opioid painkiller OxyContin. Purdue recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to help it deal with the known or expected financial burden of several settlements.

Stamford, Fairfield County’s largest office submarket with nearly 16 million square feet of space, ended the year with a 26 percent vacancy rate according to JLL research.
