A developer that’s redeveloping a Hartford housing authority property into 135 apartments has rebranded the complex as it prepares for the first tenant move-ins.
Pennrose LLC said the Westbrook Village revitalization project will be known as the Village at Park River, including a 75-unit initial phase that’s scheduled to open this summer.
Located on the eastern banks of its namesake, the Park River, the complex will set aside 80 percent of units for households earning no higher than 60 percent of the area median income.
A second phase currently under construction will include an additional 60 units, including 75 percent set aside for households earning 60 percent or less of AMI.
The project is a partnership between Pennrose, the housing authority and The Cloud Co. LLC of Farmington.
Demolition at the dilapidated housing authority property began in June 2019 to make way for the new mixed-income project.
A future commercial component is planned for a 10-acre section on the southern side of the property including retailers, restaurants, office space and University of Hartford academic space. JDA Development Co. is a partner in the commercial component.
“This project has always been about more than replacing outdated affordable housing,” Annette Sanderson, executive director of the Hartford housing authority, said in a statement. “It’s been about creating a vibrant new community where residents can live, shop and do business. This new name celebrates that rebirth and new sense of place.”
