Mall operator Westfield says it will reopen its two Connecticut locations next week in line with the state’s reopening timeline.

The Westfield Meriden and Westfield Trumbull malls will initially operate with limited hours new amenities for customers with COVID-19 concerns and other changes to implement the state’s social distancing guidelines.

The malls will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, starting May 20.

Both malls will also be cleaned more frequently, with a focus on high-touch areas such as restrooms, play areas, dining areas and water fountains. Mall staff will also regulate the number of shoppers entering at once and the number of shoppers waiting in lines at stores. Hand sanitizer and hand washing stations will be available, and face coverings will be offered to customers and employees who request them.

Both malls also will continue the curbside pickup operations they have been operating during the pandemic.

Late last month, Lamont announced plans to begin the gradual, multi-stage process of lifting restrictions on businesses and activities, including allowing outdoor dining at restaurants. Remaining retail establishments, hair and nail services, outdoor exhibits at zoos and museums, outdoor recreation and university research programs will also be allowed to open with social distancing restrictions.

Under protocols issued Monday, restaurants will be limited only to outdoor dining and takeout, and bars must remain closed. Outside tables must be 6 feet apart. Bathrooms and other areas must be cleaned frequently. Employees must wear face masks and disposable gloves, and customers must wear face masks except while eating. Visual social distancing markers also will be required.

In office buildings, capacity will be limited to 50 percent, meetings will not be allowed to have more than five people, employees must be seated 6 feet apart and elevator capacity must be limited. Employees must wear face masks, except in private offices. Frequent cleaning also will be required. State officials will continue to urge people to work from home if possible.

Retail stores also will be restricted to 50 percent capacity. Fitting rooms will be closed. Checkouts must have barriers separating cashiers from customers. Markers indicating 6 feet of distance must be installed at entrances and checkout lines. Customers and workers must wear masks, and frequent cleaning will be required. Hair salons and barbershops will be allowed to reopen by appointment only.
