Around 10,000 New Yorkers have filed change-of-address forms with the U.S. Postal Service since March, changing their home address to one in Connecticut.
The Connecticut Post reports that the surge compares to the 1,200 seen over the same time period in 2019.
The numbers aren’t necessarily equal to the number of people moving from one state to another, but likely include many shifting their primary residence from New York to a second in Connecticut due to the pandemic, the paper reports.
The newspaper analyzed the data and found Fairfield and Litchfield counties have seen the biggest benefit, with 4,946 forms filed in the former and 2,116 filed in the latter.
Fairfield County has traditionally been a strong market, but has seen demand softness in recent years as the appeal of its higher-priced suburban properties had waned.
