Logistics-as-a-service company Fillogic Hubs announced it is expanding planned “tech-enabled micro distribution hubs” from Taubman Centers-owned Stamford Town Center and four other New Jersey malls to others across the country.
The expansion comes courtesy of a deal with Simon Property Group, the company said in its announcement. The announcement said the next two hubs would be at the Livingston Mall and Gloucester Premium Outlets, both in New Jersey, and a spokesperson told The Commercial Record in an email that new locations were planned to launch in New England. The company plans to grow its network of hubs by “300 percent” in the next year.
“Physical retail provides distinct advantages in profitability and sales, and increasingly logistics is a competitive differentiator,” Bill Thayer, Fillogic’s co-founder and co-CEO, said in a statement. “Landlords, retailers, and freight providers have always inhabited the same ecosystem, but until now they have not operated as an integrated network. Fillogic is the mortar that connects bricks to clicks and makes both more profitable.”
“We’re excited to be teaming up with Fillogic and expanding the retail supply chain services available at our centers through the addition of two new hubs in New Jersey,” Simon Properties Senior Vice President Andy Hutcherson said in a statement. “From our early implementation of last mile delivery services to providing convenient return locations for our retailers and guests, Simon has been leading the industry in supply chain innovations originating from its centers and Fillogic hubs are the latest example of that.”
Fillogic’s service aims to help mall retailers follow an e-commerce strategy akin to that followed by Target and some other national retailers, where existing stores become both physical shopping destinations and distribution centers for fulfilling online orders, allowing those orders to be fulfilled more quickly.
