Torrington Savings Foundation has awarded grants totaling $100,000 to organizations responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The grants are part of a special cycle that opened in April to meet the needs of those directly affected by the pandemic.

Awards of up to $10,000 were granted to 18 organizations working on the frontlines of the pandemic. These funds will be used for basic needs such as rent, food, infant supplies, utilities, counseling, medication and childcare.

Some of the organizations receiving grants included Foothills Visiting Nurse & Home Care, Shepard Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center, the United Way of NW Connecticut, the Salvation Army, Friendly Hills Food Bank, Two Hearts Pregnancy Care Center, YMCA Camp Mohawk and Kids of Summer Foundation.

“The Torrington Savings Bank board and management team made the decision to establish a Foundation in 2018,” John E. Janco, foundation co-president, said in a statement. “Our primary goal was to support our local communities. I cannot think of a better way to achieve that goal than to support these vital, front line organizations during this pandemic crisis.”
